HEG Yes!

Boocock_ScottYou may be asking ‘what’s HEG?’ – it’s the invention of Scott Boocock, an Australian inventor. In his interview on Be Investable, Scott recalls noticing a problem when hanging clothes on the line – some things just weren’t a good fit with the clothespins (pegs in Australia) – if it only had a hook. So he made his own pegs with a hook and they worked great.

Fast-forward four months and he decided to really turn this simple solution into a viable product – the HEG taking the H from ‘hook’ and the EG from ‘Peg’. Like most inventors, the next steps, making sure it was not already invented, securing a patent, finding where to manufacture the product, and then marketing it, were the same steps any inventor or app designer would take.

His passion was essential to getting stores to carry his product. Updating a product that had not seen a design update in 160 years, made it unique and interesting. But it was creating a brand and getting people to ask for his brand that was challenging. He knew he needed media coverage and the story had to be interesting and engaging.

His story needed to be relevant to Australian media. He researched the costs of manufacturing and importing (customs, interests costs, duty, etc.) from China versus producing in Australia (including exporting grants from the government). He decided to bring manufacturing back from China to produce in Australia. It was a story that would inspire other inventors in Australia and was a story of interest to the media.

And now the company is facing the high-class problem of deciding if they should license production in other countries – helping the economies of those countries, while still producing in Australia.

Scott also discusses his WINNING cycle and how once through the cycle, it begins again and again. You won’t want to miss this interview and learn how you can use the WINNING cycle too! Since launching the HEG, Boocock is committed to helping inspire others to bring their ideas to life! Find out more on Be Investable.
